Rig Crew 916 in Yemen Positively Performing the Study of English

Rig crew 916 in ZPEB Yemen Subsidiary has been vigorously performing the activity for study of English, raising the awareness of staff to focus on and strengthen English study, creating a study atmosphere which is in line with international practice and can fully improve the quality and management of the crew.

In order to respond to the request of ZPEB International for speeding up the development of overseas projects, Cao Mandang, rig manager of rig 916 initiated the activity of speaking English while entering Yemen, staying at rig site and in daily life, and let the staff to communicate in English in daily routine and at shift meetings, forming an fine atmosphere for improving professional knowledge through English study under and on rig floor. At each shift meeting, an “English Corner” would be performed on rig floor, making the staff communicate and convey basic information about the work in different aspects. Every staff would have a notebook to note down new words at the shift meeting and first learn them by heart in the mother tongue, then look up the dictionary and practice pronunciation and finally remember them by heart. At the pre-job meeting, the rig manager would speak to the staff in English about the work to be done and then ask the safety officer to interpret what he has said, which made the staff not only learn the new professional knowledge, but also steadily improve their English proficiency. At present, this practice has been widely spread in ZPEB Yemen subsidiary.
